Progress Continues

It is a little hard to believe, but next week will be the end of our first six weeks here at WISD. We truly hope that all students are finding their courses to be both interesting and challenging. You can find a schedule of testing for our jr. sr. high school here. Be sure to put your best effort into studying next week.

The Dome is still progressing and is anticipated to be finished sometime in mid-October. We are really excited and can't wait for the community to see the results.

Remember that our monthly board meetings are the third Monday of each month starting at 6:30. The public is invited to attend. You can also find copies of the agenda and minutes of each meeting on our website. Simply select 'administration' on the top menu and then click on either board agendas or board minutes.

Welcome To The 2011-2012 School Year

Welcome back students to the new school year. District staff members have been working hard in preparation for our first day, Monday the 22nd. School will start promptly at 8 a.m. and we parents to please have their children at school at least 15 minutes prior.

We have combined our Bonnie View and Mission River Oaks bus routes as a cost-savings measure. This means that pick-up and drop-off times will be modified for some riders. Please bear with us for the first couple of days until we tweak the route and parents get a feel for when the bus will arrive.

Again welcome back to WISD for the start of the school year. Let's make it a great year!!

Schedule Pick Up

The jr. sr. high school will release student schedules starting on Wednesday, August 10th through Friday the 12th. There is no time for each class to pick up their schedule; just come when you can.

Hot Days Of Summer

There's no doubt the Heat Miser is alive and well here in South Texas. It has been extremely hot and we all need to take precautions to keep cool.

Summer is fast coming to a close and soon we will start gathering for staff development (no, say it isn't so) and the coming of WISD students'. You don't have to be in education long to find that the summers seem to get shorter and shorter. We just hope that all of you have found a way to relax and enjoy your time off. A refreshed teacher makes for such a better teacher.

Summer Band Begins

Our new district band director, Marcie Peterson, has made preparations for summer band to begin on August 1st, from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. Mrs. Peterson asks that everyone please be on time and that once she gets a 'feel' for what everyone is involved in, she will generate a schedule for the remainder of the week. There is a lot of music to learn and time is a ticking; so come prepared to have some fun, but also to get down to business.

Cheer Clinic

From July 18th to the 22nd, the WHS cheerleaders will have their summer cheer camp in the school cafeteria. It will begin at 9 a.m. and last till noon.

Switch Has Been Made

We've finally made the switch for both our email and website to Google Apps for Education. Everything appears to be working just fine and I believe that everyone will find the new apps to be well worth the moving pain.

Check out what Google Docs, Calendar, and Sites have to offer. Collaboration and cloud computing are here to stay and the move to Google Apps will make both teaching and communicating (with students and parents) easier.

Our Site Is Changing
